Turkey’s Anadolu Shipyard To Supply Two Landing Craft To An African Country

Turkey’s Anadolu Shipyard recently signed a deal with an unnamed African country for the of supply two 151 Class Landing Craft Tanks (LCT). According to the announcement issued on Anadolu Shipyard’s official social media pages, the construction of the ships in question is scheduled to be completed within two years and the ships will be delivered to the customer. However, other than this, no additional information regarding the details of the agreement has been made public.

According to speculation from the Turkish press at the time, this mysterious country could be Angola or Nigeria. However, no further developments have been reported to the public since then. Aside from that, Anadolu Shipyard delivered four landing craft to the Qatari Emiri Navy in 2022. This delivery, which took place at the shipyard’s Tuzla campus, included one Landing Craft Tank (LCT), two Landing Craft Mechanized (LCM), and one Landing Craft Vehicle and Personnel (LCVP).

Transporting tanks, armored combat vehicles, and amphibious infantry to the required location at short ranges is the primary role of the 151 Class LCTs (Landing Craft Tank), which were designed and constructed by Anadolu Shipyard. Apart from their military duties, these vessels can quickly perform disaster relief, humanitarian aid, and evacuation missions. The ship has a displacement of 1156 tons, a total length of 79.9 meters and a width of 11.7 meters. The ship can transport seven main battle tanks at once and has a carrying capacity of 420 tons. The ship can reach a top speed of 18 knots thanks to its propulsion system, which consists of two 2400 kW main engines, reverse reduction gearboxes, and fixed propellers.

The LCT is armed with two 12.7mm stabilized guns and two 30mm remote-controlled guns for self-defense, suppression of enemy positions along the coast, and protection of infantry during landings. Additionally, the ship is outfitted with a navigation suite that includes basic systems such as Fiber Optic NIS, WECDIS, DGPS, echo sounder and electromagnetic log, as well as an electro-optical system and IFF for identification purposes.
