DSEI 2025: Babcock Showcase General Logistics Vehicle

British defense manufacturer Babcock showcased the General Logistics Vehicle (GLV) at last week’s DSEI 2025 exhibition in London. The GLV presented by Babcock is their offering for the UK’s Light Mobility Vehicle (LVM) project, which is a part of the UK’s Land Mobility Programme. The Land Mobility Programme is seeking to procure a Light Mobility Vehicle (LMV), Light Protected Mobility (LPM), and Medium Protected Mobility (MPM).

The GLV is based upon a Toyota LC70 Land Cruiser and is available in both long and medium wheelbases. A recent Babcock press release details the GLVs specifications and characteristics further,

“The GLV series offers a common vehicle base with various role modules to meet the needs of different missions in evolving theatres of operation. Optimum functionality is provided through value-engineered specifications that prioritise operational effect whilst maintaining passenger comfort and ease of operation. Designed to enable the integration of various signals and communication technologies, the GLV is able to perform a key role within an integrated C4ISTAR eco-system. The payload also allows for the integration of self-defence counterstrike capability to intercept missiles and unmanned aerial threats without compromising on mobility.”

An information board was on display next to the GLV displayed at DSEI that covered the 4×4’s technical details. The GLV medium wheelbase weighs in at 3500kg while the long comes in at 5200kg. Both variants have the 1GD-FTV engine developing 201 bhp. The 4×4 GLV has a 6-speed automatic gearbox and both models can carry a roof weight of up to 200kg as well as a potential trailer payload of 3500kg. Babcock describes the GLV as a ‘reliable workhorse’ that is able to manoeuvre over a range of terrains and environments making it a worthy replacement for the Land Rover.

“While our new GLV has the look and feel of the historic Land Rover, the design features utilise our significant expertise and the latest technology, ensuring militaries across the world are equipped and mission-ready whenever and wherever needed.”

The GLV displayed at DSEI was painted in an Olive green paint scheme and was not the only vehicle to be exhibited at the event targeted at elements of the UK’s Land Mobility Programme. Other vehicles on show were the General Dynamics/BAE Systems GSUP and the KNDS ACLV. Only time will tell which vehicles the UK’s Ministry of Defence selects to meet the various requirements of the programme.
