Ukraine To Give Brigades 7 Million UAH Each In Direct Funding
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence has announced that each of its brigades will be given 7 million UAH in funding for its front line Battalions in a new initiative. Ukrainian Defence Minister Denys Shmyal said this in a recent Ukrainian MOD press release:
‘We are significantly increasing funding for combat units. Following a meeting of the Headquarters of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, a decision was made to increase the volume of direct funding for brigades for procurement. This will give combat units more opportunities to independently meet their needs.’
In monetary terms 7 million Hryvnia equates to around $168,000. The money being given to each Battalion will allow them to purchase kit and equipment from a range of suppliers. One way they can do this is through the new Brave1 online market place, which went live earlier this year. This will allow UAF forces to not only purchase items but to also invest in the development and invention of new war fighting and lifesaving technologies. Items such as UAV and FPV drones, Unmanned Ground Vehicles and Satellite Communication technology is available from the online marketplace that mimics e-commerce sites such as Amazon.

The announcement of the new 7 million in funding for front line each Brigade could see them purchase over 400 Molfar UAVs, at a cost of 15,000 UAH each or up to six Rage UGVs. Shymyal also spoke of the make up of the way the money will be made available to front line units:
‘In implementation of the Headquarters’ decision, the Ministry of Defence held an urgent meeting of the budget commission, during which funds were reallocated to increase financing for battalions currently operating on the front line. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is compiling the list of such units. The task is to transfer the funds as quickly as possible.’
It’s so far unclear if this is a one-off payment to inject funding or it it will be recurrent. Ukraine’s forces currently consists of 131 brigades, as of June 2025, these now beginning to be grouped under a new corps-based system.
