The Indonesian Air Force Receives Its Fifth NC212i Light Military Transport Aircraft

The Indonesian Air Force received its fifth NC212i light military transport aircraft from the state-owned company PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI). The official delivery ceremony for the military transport aircraft with the tail number AX-2132 took place at Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport in Jakarta, with Indonesian Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto in attendance.

The delivery in question was carried out in accordance with an agreement signed in 2017 between the Indonesian Ministry of Defense and PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI). PTDI contracted to supply the Indonesian Air Force with nine NC212i light military transport aircraft in three different configurations under this agreement. In this regard, the first four aircraft were delivered to the Indonesian Air Force on October 26, 2021, December 31, 2021, December 28, 2022, and January 26, 2023, respectively.

The remaining four aircraft, which are currently in the assembly phase at PTDI facilities, will be delivered to the Indonesian Air Force by 2026. All of these aircraft will be assigned to the 4th Squadron based at Abdulrachman Saleh Air Base in Malang.

The NC212i is a light transport aircraft produced by PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) under license from the Spanish Construcciones Aeronauticas SA (CASA) C-212 Aviocar aircraft. The aircraft, which are equipped with a modern avionics system, a fully glass cockpit, and an autopilot, are suitable for troop and cargo transportation, maritime surveillance, border patrol, search and rescue (SAR), and medical evacuation operations. These aircraft can also be utilized to fight forest fires and for aerial photography.

The NC212i has a length of 16.5 meters, a height of 6.6 meters and a wingspan of 20 meters. The aircraft’s maximum take-off weight is 8,100 kg, and depending on the configuration, it may carry a payload of up to 3,000 kg. The NC212i is powered by two Honeywell TPE331-12JR-701C turboprop engines, each of which produces 970 horsepower. These engines are coupled with an MTV-27 propeller manufactured by MT-Propeller. In this way, the aircraft achieves a maximum cruising speed of 195 knots and a long-range cruising speed of 163 knots in terms of performance. With maximum usable fuel and a cargo of 2,060 kg, the aircraft can reach a range of 806 nautical miles. The NC212i has a service ceiling of 23,000 feet when all engines are running and 7,000 feet when only one engine is functioning.
